The Hyrulian Pantheon: The Minor Gods

The WolfessMay 16th, 2012 by The Wolfess

In every pantheon there are many tiers or levels of gods based on power and importance. Besides the major gods, there are many others. The Greeks had a god for practically everything. Not all of them were important enough to live on Mount Olympus, and some that did live on Olympus weren’t all that important. Take Hephaestus for example, the deformed god of the forge. Hera threw him off of Olympus when he was born because he was hideous, but Zeus brought him back to make lightning bolts for him. He was around Olympus, but I don’t think any of us would consider him a major god. There is no way that we can compare him to his siblings, like Athena, the goddess of war and wisdom, who burst from Zeus’s head fully formed and armed for battle when he tried to eat her mother to prevent her birth.

Ocarina of Time Cosplay Piano Medley

Majora's CatMay 16th, 2012 by Majora's Cat

YouTube user lara6683 recently created a video of herself playing “Hyrule Field”, “Zelda’s Lullaby”, “Lost Woods”, “Minuet of Forest”, “Serenade of Water”, “Gerudo Valley”, the “Shop Theme” and “Goron City” all by ear, so these songs are all her own renditions!

Lara has dressed up as a potato sack, Alice from Alice: Madness Returns and as Misty from Pokémon in previous videos. To add a little extra pizzazz to her Ocarina of Time Medley, Lara dresses up in a Link cosplay costume (very fitting for the occasion). Make the jump to watch the video!

The Zelda series has been filled with romance from day one. I mean it’s always there to help drive the story, handsome young hero comes to save the Princess from evil doers over and over again. It’s a story we are quite used to. Throughout the Zelda series we have seen hints of many different love interests for Link. An unknown boy from the woods or an average ranch hand from across the map would surely be an odd couple for Princess Zelda. Malon would be more suited for young Link or possibly even Ilia or Telma from Twilight Princess. Even young Saria was quite fond of Link. Although, none of them would come close to being as strange as the romance between that of Princess Ruto and Link. Certainly Prince Ruto was putting the moves on Link while giving him the Sapphire that is so dear to her people.

I think this is what deviantARTist ~ProjectVirtue had in mind when creating this wonderful work of art showing the friendship between Link and Ruto. Make the jump for an even closer look at it.

Skyward Sword Dungeons: Lanayru Mining Facility

Axle the BeastMay 15th, 2012 by Axle the Beast

Now it’s finally time to discuss Lanayru Mining Facility. I’ve been eager to write this one because Lanayru Mining Facility is my favorite dungeon in Skyward Sword and is also among my favorite dungeons out of the whole series. I thought it was a brilliantly designed dungeon, and I greatly enjoyed my time with it.

Lanayru Mining Facility is the third dungeon of Skyward Sword, found in the technologically advanced Lanayru Province. The most obvious and unique feature about this dungeon is how advanced it is, because like the region as a whole it is filled with extremely advanced technology. This isn’t immediately apparent until you activate one of the Timeshift Stones within, however, and honestly the level of technology in Lanayru Mining Facility is a shocking contrast to that of the outside areas. Activating Timeshift Stones in Lanayru Desert and Lanayru Mine will mostly just revert the desert into a place with abundant life, and might throw in some mechanisms here and there (though they are very advanced). But Lanayru Mining Facility, being a dungeon, is a fully-enclosed, mechanical and electrical facility, true to its name.

Custom Made Link Bobblehead

JesseMay 15th, 2012 by Jesse

When it comes to bobble heads, I never thought I would be interested in them–they just never really appealed to me. But then I saw Mases’ collection video on his Link bobblehead figures… and it seems my interest has been sparked again thanks to artist Tim “Timmaytimmtim” Gilardi. He has created some fantastic and cool looking custom bobblehead figures. One of which is Mega Man, which is pretty neat–but the other is of Link, which is hands down the better of the two.

Make the jump inside to have a closer look at both of these neat looking figures.

Zelda Medley on Banjo and Musical Saw

DestinyMay 15th, 2012 by Destiny

YouTube user LoveDrunkStudio has uploaded a medley of Zelda songs preformed by Frontier Ruckus. The medley sounds very interesting with the uniqueness of the instruments used. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a musical saw. I love when people play Zelda music with uncommonly used instruments; it always turns out to be a great listen. Anyway, to check out this great piece be sure to make the jump!

Are you a fan of the Super Smash Bros. series? Well, of coarse you are! As a fan myself, I have always imagined how the series would look if approached by Nintendo differently or a different company in general. How would it play and how would it look? Well, one of those questions were answered for me when I came across this twisted take on the franchise.

Reddit user BansheeIndian has created an incredible piece artwork showing off one of the ways he envisions it, and–yes–Link is included as well as Mario and the original cast from the first game. Make the jump inside for a close look at his artwork.

Like all hardcore fans, Nintendo fans seem to go out of their way to show their love for the industry. With franchises like MArio, Zelda, Pokemon, etc., it’s not hard to figure out why so many people just love the the company. When these fans put their talent to something, they can usually pull off some breathtaking artwork, movies, and even organized falling dominoes.

YouTube user ShanesDominoez has done just this. He has made a short three minute video of the history of Nintendo, but has done so by making use of thousands of dominoes. In his video he gives tribute to Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda, as well several consoles. Make the jump inside to check the video out for yourself!

Earlier this year, in January, Nintendo asked fans of the Zelda franchise to submit pictures of themselves to help create a mosaic. Though fans very quickly gave Nintendo the requested 25,000 pictures, it took the artists at Nintendo quite a long time to actually complete the mosaic, and understandably so. Imagine how long it would take to organize, print, and arrange 25,000 pictures into one large image. Take a look at the completed mosaic after the jump!

For this week’s Monday Music Box I couldn’t think of anything better suited than the Hymns of Light and Shadows round up with the final two videos of the album. After all CsGuitar89 is my favorite on YouTube.

Well guys, it has been several months since the start of the Hymns of Light and Shadows video features and we have finally reached the end of our adventures with it. The two final videos from the album are “Dragon Roost Island” and a Majora’s Mask medley. I am a fan of “Dragon Roost Island,” but the last song of the album definitely takes the cake.

Recently, Nintendo Gamer got the chance to sit down with Donna Evans. If you’re like me and wasn’t sure who she is, you will be interested to know that she is the creator of countless fan material. From the day to day fan art we commonly see to a more unique laughing Ganondorf plushie. She is a self proclaimed “freaky fan girl” of the series (and Ganondorf in particular) and has the incredible talent to make several different Zelda collectibles. So when Nintendo Gamer finally got the chance to give her the interview many of her fans had been waiting for, you can imagine they had some interesting questions to ask.

Nintendo Gamer: So, alongside original doodles you draw a lot of fan art and, excluding the excessive Beetle juice and Burton, you feature a lot of Zelda based works, amongst other games. What is it about Zelda that inspires you?

Zelda is one of the only series that has stuck with me through my college and University days. The characters and storyline of every Zelda game have me gripped. I just want to draw and create things from the games because I love them so much.

Make the jump inside for a closer look at this very interesting interview with Donna Evans.

In this week’s collection video we take a look at the Japanese version of the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Originally known as Triforce of the Gods, this was the first Zelda title released for the Super Famicom, or as it was known in the United States, the Super Nintendo. The game cartridge looks somewhat like a Super Nintendo game, while the manual was almost identical to its US counterpart.

Copies of the game can still be found on auction sites today. While they aren’t very common here in the United States, you will still find them from time to time, albeit for much higher prices than they are found in Japan. On Japanese auction sites, there are complete versions of the game that can be found for under 2,000 yen, or roughly $25. Go ahead and make the jump to check out the collection video.
